Adding Style to Your Home With Family Photos

Going away to college or moving to a new place can be stressful. If you are far away from family, you may even be lonely for a period of time before you make new friends. A great way to help you feel at home is to add personal photos to the space. There are a number of different ways to surround you with the familiar faces of home. You can use digital images, regular photographs, or do something creative with your pictures. If you are concerned about the space looking junkd up or childish, incorporate the photos into the space in a stylish manner. Using frames with picture frame lights or art lighting is a great way to take your personal photos and turn them into something artistic. Art lights add style to mementos, as well. If you want to make your space cozy, use the familiar faces of home to create a display that will warm your heart.

If you have recently moved far away from home and you have left behind a lot of friends and a large family, consider using a collage of photos to decorate your space. You can take all of your favorite pictures and organize them into an interesting and fun design. If you enjoy craft activities or scrapbooking, use paper accessories to liven up the collage. If you are planning a move, you can even have friends and family help you design this before you go. Consider having people sign notes on pieces of paper and incorporate these heartfelt thoughts into the collage. This also makes a great gift for someone you know if they are moving away.

If a simple design is more your style, display each photo in its own space, and organize sections of your new home into families and friends. Perhaps you will miss your mom's home cooking most of all, so put family photos in the kitchen. If you and your friends spent your high school years having slumber parties, your bedroom or sleeping space may be the best location for photos of your friends. Also, be sure to place one or two of the most special photos right by your bed. This way the first faces you see in the morning and the last faces you see at night will be those of the people you love most dearly. Also, do not forget the bathroom. It may seem odd to have personal photos in the bathroom, but think of all the time you spend looking in the mirror and getting ready to face the day. The smiles of your loved ones can help you prepare for the day.

It is important to remember there are a lot of creative places you can hang and display photos. Most people think of shelves, mantels, and hung above the sofa, which are all fine ideas. However, you can also consider more creative locations. Place a family photo on the kitchen counter, hang a picture of you and your friends next to the mirror in the bathroom, and put one of your favorite photos by the front door to greet you when you get home. Photos personalize even the dullest of spaces.
