Working With Clip Art in PowerPoint

A picture tells a thousand words, adding them to your PowerPoint presentation can be a huge asset in making it look both professional and understandable. Adding pictures to power point using clip art is simple, and anybody can do it.

After opening PowerPoint, somewhere along the top bar there should be a tab called 'insert'. Click this tab, and then click on 'clip art'. This will open the clip art box on the right hand side of the screen.

Now that you have opened the clip art box, you will be able to add a picture to your presentation. To do so, simply type in the box at the top, it should have 'search for' written above it. For example, if you wanted a picture of a cat, you could type 'cat' into the box, click 'go', and then a number of different pictures of cats would appear underneath.

To ensure that you have a large variety of pictures, and not just the pictures of cats that you may have saved on your computer, it is important that you open the tab that says 'search in' and you tick 'Everywhere'. This will then search for pictures from all around the world, giving you a wider selection to choose from.

You can further customise your search by clicking on the tab that says 'Results should be'. You can then choose to tick or un-tick the following categories: Clip Art, photographs, movies and sounds. On the other hand, you can simply tick all media types. This will include all of the categories, giving you a broader variety of pictures to choose from.

When you have chosen the picture you wish to add, click it, and it will appear on the current PowerPoint slide that you have opened. In certain circumstances, you may wish to rotate the picture. To do this, make sure you have clicked on to the picture, then click and hold the left mouse button on the green circle above the clip art picture. You can then move the mouse around, which will then rotate the picture around. Furthermore, you can adjust the size of the picture by left click and holding the mouse on the 4 small circles or squares that surround the picture. You can then drag the picture, adjusting the height or width to whatever you feel necessary.

Overall, pictures will add a professional feel to your power point presentation, and can be used to compliment your text. Once mastered, clip art can be highly beneficial and useful to anybody aiming to make a successful presentation using PowerPoint.
